The Truth About Being A Teenager

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while… I’ve been busy being a teenager.

To anybody that isn’t a teenager perhaps reading this in this particular day and age, I don’t expect you to understand anything I write in this post. For it’s a popular opinion that being a teenager is essentially the ‘best years of your life’ whereas I completely disagree.

The first thing to look at when discussing the truth of being a teenager is the ultimate fact that you have no idea where your life is going. This could be deemed exciting by many because of all the possibilities we have right in front of us. However, from my personal experience, it’s absolutely terrifying. I would say that I am quite a spontaneous person and love nothing more than to go on an adventure just for the sake of experiencing new things. However, not knowing whether I could be in my dream job or no job at all because of decisions I make as a teenager just mortifies me. It’s a constant push towards university or apprenticeships or just anything that doesn’t involve a risk because simply anything ‘exciting’ in this day is also so competitive you might as well not even try.

This then leads me onto a similar sucky thing about what teenagers are subjected to at a far too young age..options. Somehow it has become acceptable to ask children to pick options that they want to follow as an adult. These options will determine what you can study in college or university and pretty much decide a job for you too. Trying to push a child that wants to grow up to be a princess or an astronaut whether they’d like to study maths or media as an adult is just insane. The world has become so insane with advancing technology and making it less shitty that we aren’t allowed a childhood or an adolescence anymore.

The next truth to being a teenager is the pure confusion towards whether you matter or not. We’re constantly told we’re very important in the development of the world and ‘WE ARE THE FUTURE’. However, in absolutely any situation that has any importance, we’re ‘just kids’ and are not mature enough to make the right decision. Hence older generations that aren’t going to be living with the changes deciding our future. My question is, if I am able to decide my entire future at 16, why can’t I vote?

The next biggy in the room about being a teenager is the image we are expected to have. Teens are expected to look like magazine models and reality TV stars when battling puberty, school stress and part time jobs? How is that even possible? Why is it ok for 14 year old girls to feel depressed because they haven’t developed boobs or a bum like somebody from the cast of Towie. Or how is it OK that a teenage boy going through the inevitable skinny stage, feels like if he doesn’t have a six pack and a cool car by 17 then hes never gonna get a girlfriend. 13 year old girls and boys are not mature or realistic enough to understand that the images they see are purely fake and edited so why are we showing them it?

Finally, the one that got me the most…battling relationships. From being tiny children watching Disney movies to being teenagers obsessed with TV, its always been addressed to us that we should only do certain things with ‘those who mean a lot to us’. The biggest lie is possibly the ‘lose your virginity to somebody you love’ crap. In an ideal world, losing your virginity to somebody that you were going to grow old with would be amazing. However, at 16 or 17, what are the chances that person is going to stay in your life? In fact, people of my age now are actually giving up on even relationships with the people they sleep with because they’re sick of being hurt but still want to fight the urges that are being pushed on them by hormones. Our parents or teachers or whoever we tell our feelings to may just laugh that heartbreak off and say its a part of growing up. But, why is this told to us so late in life? We were told to romanticise everything but never told that it wont always work out. Nobody mentioned that being betrayed at an age such as 17 or 18 may actually shape the way you look at yourself for the rest of your life.

My goal of writing this was to kind of rant but to also just get the message across that its not as ‘easy’ as people may think. Yes we may not have any or very little bills to pay and we wont get taxed or have to pay insurance. But whenever you tell your teenager they should appreciate what they’ve got and shut up, just remember that they’re probably crying themselves to sleep over battling school, jobs, bullys and boys. I don’t know about many other teenagers but i personally cant wait to be an adult.

Androgyny- Jeffree Star Review

First of all, I just want to say a massive thank you for the response to my first review. It has honestly given me so much more confidence and therefore helped me to think about other blog ideas. However, since Jeffree cosmetics was such a hit with the first review, I am going to revisit the subject and review my favourite liquid lipstick – Androgyny.

Like I said previously, Androgyny is a shade that I think everybody needs in their collection. It’s such a nice middle between a redish brown to a deep purple colour. Its so unbelievably wearable and can go with any style of outfit. Once again, I attempted to take some images from an Iphone camera instead of using my Canon but the minimal effort intrigued me.

When applying this lipstick, the only thing that doesn’t make me love it is the immediate strong smell. I’ve said it before, I am not sure if this was only my batch or if anybody else has experienced the slightly off smell but its definitely something I have to deal with when applying. However, this goes away as it begins to become matte and you’re completely left with amazing coverage and no strong smell.

A good thing about Jeffree’s liquid lipsticks is that, if you’re cursed with not the biggest lips (like myself), its really easy to over-line slightly and give the impression that your top lip actually exists.  His applicator is really good for this because its curved so that it can cover every part of your lip with one swipe. I would say that my only complaint with the applicator is that it can be quite fuzzy and therefore not give you a perfect outline. This isn’t something major because it can be solved with a lip liner. However, I personally do not use a lip liner because I’m drastically bad at it so it can create some problems. On the plus side, it does pick up A LOT of product, so much so that you usually have to scrape some off slightly. I have never had to re-dip into a Jeffree Star bottle more than once and that is insanely impressive and doesn’t take as long to apply.

The next aspect of the product that I love love LOVE is the packaging. Jeffree is known for his infamous pink nature and his packaging definitely isn’t an exception. The doe applicator is obviously a favourite for how easy it makes applying lipstick. The actual packaging is also something that many find appealing. The lipstick comes in a pink box with stars on the side as well as important information such as ingredients and an explanation that the product is cruelty free and vegan. When the box is opened, you’re greeted with a bullet shaped glass casing that automatically feels expensive and good quality. The signature stars are spread all around the bottle making it even more adorable and pretty. The top seals shut tightly meaning it wont accidentally open in your bad like some lipsticks and no product will escape. I bought this specific liquid lipstick before the lid did the click close but since, Jeffree has improved his packaging and it now has a sharp clasp that nips shut when you screw it to close. This makes it that extra bit secure.. the noise is also extremely satisfying.

I have had a look at some fake versions of the Velour Liquid Lips  and I have to admit that there isn’t many differences when it comes to packaging.  If you’re going to buy from somewhere that isn’t an official distributor, please do be careful when looking at the products. I have noticed that the stars on the bottom part of the lid section are much closer and bigger and the stick of the applicator is also white and not clear. The fake liquid lip that I have tried before wasn’t too bad of quality but I have no doubt it wasn’t vegan and stained the hell out of my lips. Not to mention, a lot of the fakes are selling for around £8 and you could get a real one for £16. That extra bit of money isn’t much of a leap and will definitely save your lips from whatever chemicals they throw in the fakes for pigmentation. This goes for all over brands but I thought I’d throw that in there in case anybody was tempted.

Finally, this product dries within about 40 seconds to two minutes depending how much product you have applied. I have noticed that this particular shade dries much nicer on your lips than your hand which may have something to do with the difference in texture. The end result is slightly tacky but not sticky in the slightest and does last all day. Sometimes this colour can print when eating which is something to keep an eye on. It also may need slightly topping up if you have been drinking as it can fade slightly where your lips meet your teeth.

Here’s another of my gross swatches. This image was taken about a minute after applying the swatch and as you can see, its not completely dried. The silky nature of this liquid lip helps my lips so much when wearing and doesn’t leave them dry in the slightest despite it being matte. In order to get the best application, I recommend using a lip scrub to get rid of any bumps that might occur on your lips. I personally use the ‘Sugar Fairy Christmas Lip Scrub’ from Lush which tastes amazinnngggggg. However, Jeffree does sell some pretty great lip scrubs on his website as well as his distributors websites and the flavors are insane.

To conclude, I am in love with this liquid lipstick and can see myself having to buy a new one very soon due to me using it so much. I do think this shade can fit any skin tone or hair colour, as well as makeup looks. It’s definitely one that I want you all to go away and try so if you do, please let me know how you get on with it.

If you would like to purchase any Jeffree products, I will link the genuine websites below and I seriously recommend doing so. Please let me know what you would like me to review next or if there are any subjects you would like me to discuss. I want to write things that people are actually going to read and enjoy so your input really helps me. Until next time, I hope you enjoyed my review 😀

Jeffree Star Liquid Lip Review

Jeffree Star..

A very controversial person to discuss on the internet. However, no matter what views I have on his personality or previous opinions, I cannot flaw his impeccable ability to create makeup. I wanted to discuss Jeffree Star Cosmetics as my first blog post because its a brand that I enjoy so much and cannot stop buying. Therefore, in this post, I am going to be discussing my top five favourite liquid lipsticks that I own from his collection.

1. Scorpio

As an overly pale female with dark hair, I find purples are the most flattering. This particular liquid lipstick was one that I had been wanting for at least a year before I finally got to purchase it. Its the perfect grey toned purple that I think a lot of people need in their collection. I find that this particular liquid lipstick dries very well and doesn’t leave the sticky after feeling that we all hate. The smell of this liquid lipstick is also one of my favourites because its not overbearing or chemically, its just a very simple vanilla scent that doesn’t linger too long.

The swatch above was taken about a minute after applying and as you can see, it didn’t take forever to dry. (I’d also like to just add that the tattoo is currently in the annoying process of healing so ignore it XD). This colour is kiss proof and doesn’t seem to come off when eating but I am aware that others have had different experiences with it. I definitely think that on the lips, this particular shade looks a lot different to an arm swatch but I will most likely be doing an individual Scorpio review at some point which will include lip swatches.

2. Androgyny

Ok but seriously.. who doesn’t love Androgyny? This beautiful mauve shade is usually the first liquid lip of Jeffree’s that anybody purchases and in my opinion, this is purely because of how wearable it is. This was my first Jeffree and here I am, 11 liquid lipsticks on, still entirely in love with the brand. This shade can be paired with any outfit you want to wear, no matter how simple or wacky it is. However, my only complaint towards this liquid lip is the smell. I’m not entirely sure whether it’s just mine or if many are experiencing it but the smell is slightly off. There isn’t many ways to describe how strange it is but luckily it seems to fade after application.

After cringing at how misshaped this swatch is, I realized that it doesn’t dry as well as I thought it did. This could have to do with the fact that the skin on your wrist isn’t the same texture as your lips but it definitely didn’t dry as it usually does. This liquid lip isn’t kiss proof and may print slightly when eating but Jeffree does disclaim this on the packaging. However, the colour is still insanely beautiful and will remain my number one, go to liquid lip.

3. I’m Royalty

Keeping with the purple theme, my next favourite is one that is slightly more drastic than the rest…I’m Royalty. The name is extremely accurate as wearing this liquid lip makes you feel like a thousand dollars. It’s vibrance doesn’t fade throughout the day and the only part of your lips that you may need to top up is the centre at the back where your lips meet your teeth. I have noticed that this liquid lipstick is a lot more drying than the others but that can be expected due to the amount of dark pigmentation that will be required to make it. It also shares the same subtle light scent as Scorpio which is always a good thing.

I personally think that everybody should purchase this colour, not only because of its amazing formula, but also for its wacky nature. I think anybody can pull this colour off, its just being confident enough to embrace it in public as its definitely a blinder.

4. Redrum

Redrum is a newbie in my collection but it has already made its way to one of my all time favourites. The vibrant cherry red can make any girl feel like a disney princess in a matter of moments. I also think that this colour can work with any skin tone and
still look insanely pretty. Once again, the smell of Redrum shares a slightly stronger scent much like Androgyny but the smell disappears more or less straight away.

This liquid lipstick dries with a really nice texture and doesn’t dry out your lips at all. It only requires one swipe the get this much pigmentation and to me, that’s something I love to see in liquid lipsticks. This colour is also kiss proof and I found that it didn’t come off at all when eating which is always a good thing for when you’re out.

5. No Tea, No Shade

Finally, a metallic. This shade is also purple (surprise surprise) but I found it to be the only metallic that I would wear out of the three he released. This shade is one for the daring as its so dark but yet includes so much shimmer. I was really impressed with the formula as it dried very quickly and wasn’t streaky or sticky. The slightly stronger scent also fades after it dries which is something I value in liquid lips. After wearing it for about 4 hours, I noticed that the metallic side to it wasn’t as blinding but the full application still wasn’t streaky or coming off. The formula for this metallic has definitely made me want to purchase more even though they aren’t necessarily colours I would usually wear. The name of this colour slightly confused me but yet it sounds so badass which is a talent of Jeffree’s.

It was difficult to capture the metallic nature of this liquid lip using an Iphone camera so I apologies for the poor quality. However, some of the shimmer can still be seen in the photo.

So there you have it! They were my top five favourite liquid lipsticks by Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I do own many more that amaze me on a daily basis but I decided to pick the five that I reach for the most. These liquid lipsticks are $18 each and around £16 depending on where you get them from. Jeffree also does highlighters (that are insane), actual lipsticks and lip scrubs. All of his products are vegan and cruelty free which I know is a big factor for why people tend to buy them. As Jeffree is an indie brand, he only has one official UK distributor which is beauty bay. This is the site I order all of my Jeffree products from and its always such good service. The postage is free over £15 and your order will usually be with you within two days depending on what time of the day you ordered it. They are also extremely careful with your order and make sure that it will not be damaged in the process of delivering. For the US, Jeffree’s official distributor is Beautylish. I don’t personally know what the process is like for this website because I live in the UK but I have heard very positive reviews about it so I have no doubt they will do everything that Beauty Bay do. Also for the US and other country’s, Jeffree has an official website that stocks all of his makeup and some of his brands clothing items as well. All links will be down below and I hope you have enjoyed my first ever review 🙂
